We can comfortably say that Corney & Barrow’s first Summer Tasting at the Oxo Tower was a tremendous success. The doors for our private customers opened at 5pm where upon arrival you would immediately find Audrey Campos from Champagne Delamotte showcasing the launch of their spectacular 2002 vintage. A delightful balance of richness, power and freshness will see this Champagne truly hit its stride in 2/3 years. It is well worth putting a case away to age whilst snapping up some remaining Delamotte ‘99 for more immediate drinking pleasure.
By six o’clock the room was buzzing; producers engaged in showing their wines, staff and customers comparing notes and thoughts, all with a sense of exciting unfamiliarity. A new venue for a new tasting, focusing on wines from around the world with absolutely no representation from Burgundy and Bordeaux. Over one hundred wines from Rosé to the Rhône, from Chile to California, from Spain to South Africa were on hand to taste. It really was impossible to not find a wine that made you smile, with so many styles and varieties to suit everyone’s palate. Whether a zingy and crisp Marlborough Sauvignon is your cup of tea or a rich and aromatic Alsatian Gewurz, all bases were covered. Needless to say that the evening flew by and many people’s cellars are pleasantly stocked for the summer!
Reports feeding back from customers detail their enjoyment of the evening and how it was refreshing to have a tasting with no spotlights on Bordeaux or Burgundy. However if you are a mighty fan of these two historic regions then worry not as next up is our Winter Tasting on Wednesday 9th November at The Tower of London. This will be sure to scratch those more traditional itches.
