Sauvignon Blanc Day

May 3, 2018

Sauvignon Blanc Day

Sauvignon Blanc Day is celebrated on the 4th May this year – here’s raising a glass to an incredibly versatile (and delicious) grape!

Zingy, zesty, refreshing, citrusy, fruity.. a glass of Sauvignon Blanc is hard to beat. Sauvignon Blanc’s profile has surged in recent years, fuelled by the increased availability of delicious Sauvignon Blanc styles from wine regions as diverse as New Zealand, Chile and South Africa. However, Sauvignon Blanc’s spiritual home is France, where in the Loire Valley on distinctive chalky soils it produces the famed dry white wines of Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé, prized for their mineral elegance.

Here’s just a few of our favourites from around the globe.

Happy Sauvignon Blanc Day!

New Zealand >  South Island  >  Marlborough

Ana Sauvignon Blanc Eradus Wines 2018 (£11.95)

Easy-drinking, zesty and fresh – benchmark Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Named after winemaker Michiel Eradus? daughter, Ana could be described as a typical Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc with cut grass aromas, gooseberry flavours and refreshing citric acidity. With its equally attractive pricetag, we cannot get enough!

Peru > Ica

Intipalka Sauvignon Blanc Vinas Queirolo 2019 (£10.75)

A delicate and uplifting Sauvignon Blanc, with light, aromatic notes of citrus fruit and fresh-cut grass. ‘Intipalka’ means ‘valley of the sun’ in Quechua, the language of the ancient Inca people. Here in the Valle de Ica is an oasis, where the Queirolo family have been growing vines since 1880. The unique desert climate, with warm sunny days and cool nights, produces grapes with delicate aromas and bright acidity, and a saline character imparted by the Pacific ocean just 60km away.

Chile > Valle Central > Valle Central

Casa Felipe Sauvignon Blanc 2019 (£8.25)

Crisp, aromatic and refreshing from Chile’s Valle Central. Enjoy it with seafood and salads. This vibrant Sauvignon Blanc was blended specially for us by Luis Felipe Edwards in a new, exciting partnership. It offers citrus fruit aromas and herbaceous notes over a soft, creamy texture.

California > Napa

Sauvignon Blanc Cakebread Cellars 2017 (£29.50)

Fruit-driven Sauvignon-Blanc from prestigious Napa Valley producers, Cakebread Cellars. Cakebread Cellars make high quality wines from vineyards all over the Napa Valley. They blend a tiny amount of Semillon and Sauvignon Musque to their Sauvignon Blanc, for complexity and spice. Round and fleshy for its type, this wine shows notes of citrus, stone fruit and gooseberries.

Italy > Friuli Venezia Giulia > Colli Orientali

Sauvignon Blanc La Tunella 2017 (£13.50)

A distinctive style of Sauvignon Blanc with characteristic Friulian weight and finesse. The Zorzettig family have run this winery in Friuli’s Eastern hills (Colli Orientali) since the 1960s. In 1991, they replaced many vines with classic, international varieties and introduced a brand new winery. The results were spectacular! Their Sauvignon is floral and fresh with ripe melon notes and a long, delicate minerality.

France > Loire > Central Vineyards > Sancerre

Sancerre Domaine Tissier 2018 (£18.95)
Classic, well-priced Sancerre from some of the finest slopes in the appellation. Made by boutique, family-run Domaine Tissier. Florent Tissier, winemaker and domaine owner, aims to create beautifully balanced wines with delicate aromas and elegant, mineral concentration. His Sancerre is a stylish expression of Sauvignon Blanc, with a herbaceous bite and gunflint notes on the finish.
